How to Meditate with Music

1. Choose your Meditation Music

Pick music you like listening to and that can help you relax. For instance, if you don’t enjoy classical music, don’t choose it. But also, don’t opt for techno beats or rock music with heavy elements. Find music that has a slow tempo, preferably without lyrics to avoid getting distracted by the words.

2. Find a Quite Spot and Get into a Comfortable Position

Find a quiet corner, where you won’t be disturbed during your practice. Sit in whatever position you feel is comfortable. This could be on a chair with your feet on the floor, cross-legged, or even lying - as long as you can stay in this position throughout the practice.

3. Relax Yourself

Once you are comfortable in your position and close your eyes, let your shoulders, your belly, and face muscles relax. Breathe in deeply through your nose, and then exhale through your mouth.

4. Focus on the Music

Try to keep your awareness of the tune and notes of the music. If you find yourself thinking and having other thoughts (even about the music), gradually and gently redirect your attention to the present moment and the sound of the music. Try to feel the music.

5. Continue your Practice

As you continue meditating, you may find yourself distracted by thoughts entering your mind. Each time this happens, gently let them go and simply redirect your focus to the sound of the music. Notice the physical sensations you feel in your body.

6. Concluding with Positivity

Always keep a timer at the start of the practice so you do not have to worry about how much time has passed and how much time is left to conclude the practice. Once you’ve run out of time or the music has stopped, take a few moments to bring yourself back, be grateful for this opportunity, and then gently open your eyes.

Remember: The goal of this practice is to forget about your inner voice and just be. Be with the music, and fully immerse yourself, till you feel free, relaxed, and renewed.

What is a Sound Bath?

A sound bath is a meditative experience, where you are “bathed” in sound waves. You are surrounded by therapeutic sound waves. The waves may be produced by various sources, including healing instruments such as gongs, singing bowls, percussion, chimes, rattles, tuning forks, and even human voices.

It is a deeply-immersive, full-body listening experience that uses sound waves to induce gentle yet powerful healing, nurturing, and soothing processes within your mind and body.

During a sound bath, most people usually lie on their backs. However, you may even stay seated, as long as you are comfortable.

When you sink into a sound bath, you must guide your awareness to your listening to allow your brain waves to slow down and enter a zen state.

Benefits:

The goal of a sound bath is to initiate restoration or rebalance or change within yourself. It can help balance your Chakras and your energy. By immersing in the sound waves, you allow your brain to let go and release. This can help relieve stress and manage any negative emotions. It can also help the body relax, release pain, and eliminate toxicity from the body.
